I went down to the crossroads like those long ago
Looking for the Devil so I could sell my soul
I needed something new, a chord I didn't know
So down to the crossroads, down I did go
I found sweet satan waiting before me he was there
Floating 'bove a lake of fire with diamonds in his hair
The light burned bright behind him, my heart near burst with fear
Before he spoke, lightning broke, thunder clapping in my ears
He spoke in Heiroglyphics, words I could not hear
But somehow still I knew his voice, the message was clear.
He said, "God cannot be caged, he is only one,
But I have many traps, my friend, to get your mission done."
Fiery disguise gone from his eyes, the Devil knelt before me
With thorny hand he clawed the land, digging as he told his story
He said:
"Son, you see, I cannot set you free. Mother's laws were heaven sent but since then she's been reticent. No one's quite sure what she meant but still her light can sure be bent.
...and though her word I cannot change, I can offer something strange. Another way to see the day, same old light but brand new sight."
So from the earth he took a gem, threw it in the air it spun and then:
A million diamonds in the sky, shining light into my eyes.
To my surprise he told no lies. Though he was gone he'd left his prize and though there shone no paragon I didn't care I thought it fair that for this deal I'd have to bear the many feels of the spinning wheels.
I went down to the river with Devil's diamonds in hand to give her
The journey long I wrote a song to help me carry on
And as I sang the forest rang with echoes loud and then a bang
A tree had fell and sure as hell the Devil stood to bid farewell
He was gone and still unknown was what he meant and where to go
The world was shrouded in a haze with which all valleys were ablaze.
The bud still promised wondrous powers and I would crush a thousand flowers with Devil's diamonds in the sky, as many sides as reasons why.

I love the atmosphere, sound design, melody-driven approach, and overall musicality here. I listen to Eons a lot, and I can't not sing along with the chorus every time. markdesimone
